Happy Thanksgiving!!

I hope everybody has a great, safe holiday with lots of good food, football, and naps! :-)

And, just in time, old man winter charged in and kicked the snot out of our extended, warm weather. Now we are looking at a couple rounds of wintery weather through the next few days. In the more distant future, the first of December is starting to look pretty darned interesting. More on that as we get closer.

I've also been closely following the CFDG/ST drama the past week. Lots of interesting things have happened both publicly and behind-the-scenes. In short, there was an uprising among the peasants against the ruling class CFDGers. Questions were raised about the double standards and hypocrisy with some great examples of such. Some of the ones leading the charge have been targeted for reprisal in order to quell the rebellion. I won't dive into it deeply right now as I'm about to head out of town for awhile. I may expand on this abit more when I get back.

Horizon Winter

I've been carefully watching the medium range models the past few days. They are in general agreement on tapping into some arctic air and plunging it into West Texas. This appears to happen around Wednesday of next week. Some projections indicate that the TX Panhandle may struggle to get above freezing for a couple of days. The arctic air is definitely on it's way regardless of either model solution.

The more interesting feature is the advertisement of a strong upper trough and possibly an upper low digging down into the SW part of the CONUS. This is where the models diverge abit with the GFS being more progressive and the ECMWF much stronger and deeper. Given the usual tendency of the GFS this far out in underdoing such west coast systems combined with my my preference for the ECMWF in this situation, it is starting to appear that some significant winter weather is in store.

We're still a ways out on this system, so the model solutions are likely to change. Perhaps later this weekend, they will converge better on a solution. I'll update then.

My Next Backyard Project

I bet he doesn't have much of an insect problem in his yard. ;-) Definitely needs to be added to the SDS Treatment Facility!!

Ramble On

Boring but absolutely beautiful weather in the Texas Panhandle. Nothing really much going on weather wise. I received the drum pads recently as part of my rebate. It's an 8-piece kit now with a 5th cymbal on its way. I play every night and am getting some of my mojo back as well as stamina. I've got more to go though. However, with all of the backing midi tracks with the TD-20, it makes it more fun and versatile to practice. I love it! :-) I've already started creating and customizing kits and sounds. I use a tool for the PC called V-Drum Lib to make the process faster and much easier.

Interestingly, the module can use a compact flash card to backup and transfer stuff, but only 512mb. I looked all over Amarillo to find one....nada. 1gb is the smallest and it absolutely will not work. So, I found a few on eBay and got one for $17 total. I'll probably order another one just in case. It seems as though these are fast becoming obsolete. Hopefully the upcoming TD-20 expansion next year will take care of this requirement.

Hopefully we'll see some "weather" next week as the models show some interesting prospects for something other than "Chamber Of Commerce Weather".

Go Cowboys!
